STAND
is a nonprofit organization of concerned citizens dedicated to open
and accountable government. The United States government, as well
as those who act on its behalf, must remain accountable to every
individual and community impacted by past or future missions of
its nuclear facilities.
STAND is committed to the belief that the air, water and
soil are vulnerable and the integrity of these natural resources
is essential, not only for a sustainable economic base, but for
the health of future generations. Decisions affecting nuclear facilities
in the Texas Panhandle will profoundly impact the region's prosperity,
health and land upon which communities depend.
STAND's mission is to
promote public awareness, education, and participation in
all issues and decisions related to nuclear facilities;
champion independent citizen input and oversight of the federal
government's operation of nuclear facilities;
ensure that a long-range view enriches the public debate
concerning both local and national decisions.
Through these efforts, STAND's goal is the protection of human health
and preservation of natural resources entrusted to our
care.
